Enya planning series of Star Wars concerts
The News Letter (Belfast, Northern Ireland) 17 November 1997
Singer Enya from Co Donegal is to team up with Star Wars director George Lucas for a series of spectacular concerts next year.
The singer and composer, one of Britain's richest women, has had negotiations with Lucas.
"I plan to set some time aside for touring with a live stage show in 1998 and Mr Lucas is very interested in creating some really special lighting effects for the shows,'' said Enya, a member of the musical Brennan family from Gweedore."
Lucas became aware of Enya's talents when she composed the soundtracks for a number of Hollywood films.
Enya, who rarely gives interviews, said that she was delighted to be among the contributors to a Christmas tribute album to Diana, Princess of Wales.
"I met Lady Diana twice and the second time we met she told me that my composition Watermark was a favourite melody of hers."
This track, which is also the title of an Enya album, will be on the tribute album which will raise money for Di's trust fund.
Enya's fans include the Pope, for whom she played in the Vatican, and the King of Sweden .
She was the surprise guest at the king's recent birthday concert.
After pre-Christmas promotional trips for her latest album to the continent, Japan and the United States, the ex-Clannad singer hopes to have some relaxation time on her hands.
She has sold 33 million albums in 10 years and has bought a castle in Eire.
Enya said that her long-term relationship with her boyfriend had ended.
She remains hopeful, though, of finding someone to live with behind the castle ramparts.
