Star Enya Hurt in Car Crash
The Mirror (UK) 17 July 1997
Pop queen Enya suffered head injuries when she was involved in a car crash.
The accident forced the millionaire star to cancel a trip to New York this week to mark the first anniversary of the TWA jet explosion.
She had been invited to attend a graveside cere-mony by the parents of Larissa Uzupis, who was killed in the blast. The star became friends with the grieving couple after they contacted her for permission to reproduce some of the lyrics of her song Evacuees on an anniversary plaque to be unveiled this week.
The singer agreed to the request when she heard Larissa had been a huge fan of her music and surprised the couple by agreeing to attend the service in person.
The reclusive star was with her manager Nicky Ryan and his wife Roma when their luxury Mercedes was in an accident near the couple's south county Dublin home.
The singer was treated in hospital but later discharged.
The Ryans were also treated for minor injuries and sent home.
Manager Nicky Ryan last night reassured fans of the singer, who comes originally from Gweedore, Co Donegal, that she was on the mend.
He said: "Enya is recovering and work will soon resume on the new album." But Enya is upset that the crash has forced her to cancel the New York trip.
Nicky - who both produces and manages the second-richest performer in Ireland after Dolores O'Riordan - added: "Enya is most concerned at the moment that her personal message of condolence goes out to Larissa's mother."
